Living From the Overflow

God is a good and loving God. In His goodness and love, He sent His only Son, Jesus, to a world that did not love Him and had fallen away from Him, had fallen away from His love and goodness. And in the same goodness and love Jesus willingly came to this world to do what only He could do. Jesus came making a way to reconnect us to God, to reconnect us to His goodness and love. And in doing so, Jesus provided a way for us to live like heaven on earth. He provided the means for us to live the abundant life, to live from the overflow.

Jesus tells us in John 10:10 AMPC: “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” And in the NKJV, He informs us: “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Jesus Himself lived from a heavenly perspective while on earth. He remained solid and unwavering in Who He was as God’s Son while He was continually listening to and observing God. Jesus was always preaching, teaching, and demonstrating where He came from as an example for us to do the same. Jesus lived in the same abundance, and He wants us to steward this abundant life He has provided for us. And we can by receiving Him as Lord and Savior over our lives and then receiving and living in the abundant life He gave us.

Jesus came to be our good Shepherd so we could follow His lead by living a life from the overflow. He came so we could live in Psalms 23 CEV: “You, Lord, are My Shepherd. I will never be in need. You let me rest in fields of green grass. You lead me to streams of peaceful water, and You refresh my life. You are true to Your name, and You lead me along the right paths. I may walk through valleys as dark as death, but I will not be afraid. You are with me, and Your Shepherd’s rod makes me feel safe. You treat me to a feast, while my enemies watch. You honor me as your guest, and You fill my cup until it overflows. Your kindness and love will always be with me each day of my life, and I will live forever in Your house, Lord.” This is only one of many promises that are found in God’s Word that is a part of the life more abundant available to us right now. A life to be accepted in the full measure it has been provided to us. And in doing so, we can be an example to others leading them to Jesus so they can experience this abundant life and live in the overflow.

Think about all Jesus went through for you, for me, for us before, during, and after the cross. Just the mere fact that Jesus chose to leave heaven to be born as a baby should be convincing enough for us to want to live in the abundant life He gave us. He was raised by parents who were not His heavenly Father, Who He had always known. He had to wait to be filled with Holy Spirit and then be launched into ministry practically unknown to most. He was ridiculed and mocked for standing firm on His identity as being God’s Son. He was set up to experience the most humiliating and gruesome death as an innocent Man. And He did this personally for you and me, so we would be saved from sin and death but also so we could live the abundant life each and every day we remain on earth. He wants us to be living examples of what life looks like with Him - a life that exceeds measure, overflows, in superabundance of everything provided to us from God through Him.
